| Programming the Yaesu FT-1D radio begins with getting data from the radio to give the ADMS-FT1D Programmer identifying information it needs. What is retrieved in this process is modification status, world wide version (American, European, South American, etc) and other information about the radio that can only be retrieved from it. This will be your first experience working with the SD card and the data transfer process on this radio. These steps will help you through that process |

Step 1: With the radio off, insert the SD card into the slot on the side of the radio marked Micro SD.

| Step 2: With the radio on, press and hold for 1 second the [DISP/SET] key on the face of the radio to access the menu |  |

| Step 3: Turn the knob to select Option 10 SD card. Once highlighted, press the [ENT] key on the radio (key at bottom left) to select this option |

| Step 4: Backup will Be highlighted. Press the [ENT] key again to select this option. You are still in control. There are still two more questions to answer to Begin the process. |

| Step 5: Write to SD will Be highlighted. Press the [ENT] key again to select this option. This will transfer all the details of your radio to the SD card. Even in a new radio there are details that the Programmer needs to identify your radio. |

| Step 6: OK? will Be highlighted. Press the [ENT] key again to select his option. The details of the radio will Be transferred to the SD card. The process takes only a matter of seconds to complete. The Battery Save indicator will blink during the process. |

| Step 7: Remove the SD card from the slot for use in the computer. It may not seem normal; but you press the SD card to release it from the slot. The card will "eject" and Be ready to remove. Use the holder that came with the radio to grip the card or tweezers work well. At all times Be sure you do NOT touch to gold contacts. This could damage the card to the point it cannot Be used by the radio or the computer. Load the SD card into a reader for your computer to use. |

| Step 8: Identifying the SD card on the computer Load the SD card into a reader for your computer to use. The instructions that follow are designed for the USB reader that comes with the ADMS-FT1D programming kit. If you mount the card into a slot on the computer, a few details may Be different.. but the process is the same. Windows 7 and Windows 8 will open a window asking what you want to do with the device. Select "Open folder to view files". Windows Explorer (Computer) opens for you to see the Removable Drive in the directory listing (as shown Below). You are not going to do anything with the files at this point other than familiarize yourself with how the SD card works in your computer. |

| Step 9: Start the ADMS-FT1D Programmer The program opens in a default file. If you have Been working in the Programmer and it opens to the file you saved with memory channel details, do File | New Before proceeding to the next step. |

| Step 10: Select Communications | Read Data from SD card from the menu An Open box will appear for you to direct the program to the Removable Disk (SD card). Use the directory tools in the Open box to find your SD card. Your SD card will Be a Removable Device. There may Be several to choose from. If necessary, choose them each in turn until you find on with the directory structure shown. Do not change the filename that appears at the bottom of the screen. This is the file that the radio wrote and what the Programmer expects to read. Once you find this directory structure, change to FT1D/BACKUP by clicking on each. You will find the file in the BACKUP directory. See the screens Below for the steps as they may appear on your computer from the Open box to the open file. |

| Step 11: Once the filename appears in the Open window, click the Open button It may appear that nothing happens. The main screen does not change since there were no memory channels programmed in the radio; but, the Programmer has retrieved the information it needs to identify your radio. You have completed this part of the process and are ready to set up a file for your radio with memory channels, VFOs, Limit memories and customized menu settings. You will need to repeat this part of the process if you make changes on your radio that you want to save to the computer or if you modify your radio to transmit outside the ham band. |

| Step 12: As you build your file for the FT-1D radio, you will want to save it as you work. Be sure to enter your callsign on the Settings screen of the program as you work. Select Settings | Radio Menu Settings and enter it into the Callsign field at the bottom left of that screen. Use the File menu on that screen to save this information for use by the radio. Now that you have entered several repeater frequencies, offsets and tones, click File | Save As to save the file on the computer. This is NOT the file that you will use to program the radio. |

| Step 13: Click Communications | Write Data to SD Card to make the file ready for use by the radio. This process will create the file that you will use to program the radio. There are some very specific requirements for this file that the radio dictates. I will Be sure to point those out in this process. |

| Step 14: A Save As dialog opens. It's in this dialog that you will direct the program to the SD card.. just as you did when you read from the card. Click the down arrow in the Save in box at the top and pick the Removable Disk. |

| Step 15: Click Save. Don't do anything else on this screen. The program will take care of everything else required by the radio including filename and directory. Remember that if the radio does not see the EXACT filename, "backup.dat", in the EXACT directory that it wants it, you will not see your programming in the radio. . |

| Step 16: Remove the SD card from the computer. Put it into the radio as shown in Step 1. . You're almost there. You only need to transfer the data from the SD card to the radio. Think about it.. this is SOOOOOO similar to the process you used on other radios.. You did Get data from Radio.. then created the file with the information you wanted programmed in the radio.. Saved the File.. Did Send data to radio to program those details into the radio. The process for this radio is a little different Because the transfer is not direct through a cable.. but it still Beats pressing all those buttons to program the memory channels and other options!! |

| Step 17: Repeat Steps 2, 3, 4 as shown above. In Step 5, in the Backup options, select Read from SD Card. Click OK to complete the process. When the radio cycles back on after reading the contents of the card, it will Be programmed with the memory channels and other settings just as in the file you created on the computer. |
