American radios are blocked by law from receiving cellular frequencies. These are 824 - 849 MHz and 869 - 894 MHz.

What you must realize though is that there are other frequency ranges that must be blocked to account for the harmonics to these frequencies. These are 912-943.5 MHz and 957 - 988.5 MHz. When programming a US radio, these will respond with "Enter a valid receive frequency".

These are based off the internal version of your radio and affect only the US version this way. To trigger the programmer for a radio in a place other than the US (that is truly an export radio), do Communications | Get data from radio to let the program know the version of the radio being programmed.

Legal modifications to the radio for out of band transmission will not change this characteristic.
