The Radio Programmer Is for so Much More than Just Memory Management

With the KRS-THD75 Programmer you can begin a new “factory fresh” file into which frequencies and option settings are entered. Or you can read from the radio, store these details on your computer and make changes. Then, with minimal button pushing, send the new configuration back to the radio.

The Programmer allows you to create and save as many files as you want for your radio. Files can even be shared between users via email or the Internet.

Managing all the options of this great radio becomes easy with the Programmer. The cut, copy, paste and insert features of the Programmer make channel management easier than ever.

Open more than one file at a time. Memory channel information can be copied from one file to another within the Programmer making it really easy to set up a new file.

Save your file as you work. This is a computer, after all, and you would hate to lose your work should the system fail. Actually, create and save as many files as you want or need. You could have one file for home, a different one for the vacation house, another for the trip to your son’s house, another for the yearly 3K run and picnic where you help direct traffic and want the radio to be programmed with only the frequencies for that event. Remember, radio programming is an overwrite process. Everything in the radio is replaced by everything in the file.

Limit Memories

Limit Memories

The TH-D75 has 50 pair of Limit memories used for Program Scan. This scanning operates between the lower and upper frequencies entered in a given pair. The lower and upper frequencies must be in the same band for scanning to operate using that pair.

DR Memories

DR Memories

DR Memories for DStar activities. The RT Systems programmer includes a list that will load to your radio. You can customize that list with the DStar calculator for the DR Memories. Remember, a customized list of repeaters you use is much better than wading through a long list to find the one you want. You can always get the original list back from a New (default) file.

DStar Calculator for DR Memories

DStar Calculator for DR Memories

The DStar Calculator for DR Memories has worldwide repeaters for use in DR activities. With a few clicks, you can customize the DR memories of the radio. Remember, you must be able to hit this repeater to be able to use it either locally or for a DStar connection.

Hot Spot Memories

Hot Spot Memories

The TH-D75 offers separate memories for your Hot Spot. Enter the details here for your device. Only one entry is necessary for your Hot Spot. Other commands (change repeater, disconnect, or echo) will be accessed from the Individual List in the Destination select of the radio. The destinations to be selected can be customized in the programmer. This list is found under DStar | Digital (DStar) settings from the menu at the top of the screen.

DStar | Digital (DStar) Settings

DStar Settings

Your Callsign is a requirement for any and all DStar activities. Access DStar | Digital (DStar) Settings from the top of the screen. Here you will find places to enter your Callsign (this is YOUR FCC issued callsign that has been registered in the DStar system), the 4-character Note and Message that will transmit with your voice transmission to be displayed on the recipient's radio, and the Your Callsign list that you can customize for your use (these are the DStar function commands and Reflector list.)

Call Channels

Call Channels

Call channels are a set of memories (two per band) that are used for a quick recall function of the radio. These channels MUST be programmed. The frequencies shown in the Programmer can be changed to any other that is appropriate for the band. The Programmer will warn you if what you enter is not appropriate. If you need to re-enter the default value, look in a new file of the Programmer for that value. If you are not using Call Channel functionality on the radio, leave the entries of this screen set to the default values.

VFO

VFO

VFO memories are a set of default frequencies that are programmed into the radio in production or that the radio was last using before the Get Data from process was completed. They are a part of the programmer more for information than actual usage given that VFO changes and is not saved when you turn the knob on the radio. There is no "one-button" type recall for these channels. These channels MUST be programmed. If you need the default values, they can be found in a new file of the Programmer.

Weather (Channels)

Weather

Ten NOAA weather channel frequencies are stored in this special part of memory. Enter a name that properly identifies the channel for you and add a comment to refer to while working in the file (the comment does not transfer to the radio but will be a part of a printout of this page).

GPS Memories

GPS Memories

GPS memories for up to 100 points captured using the GPS Mark function. Make changes to these entries or clear the list to begin again.

D-STAR Setup

Everything you need to set up DStar successfully is included in the Programmer.

We already mentioned the DStar Calculator for DR memories. You will also find the Your Callsign list that can be customized for your use by eliminating reflectors and adding others, six fields for your callsign (My Callsign) and a four-character note, and fields for the Text message that scrolls across the screen of the receiving radio when your transmission is received.

Then with the built in DStar Calculator, set up memory channels that are ready for DStar connections and communications.

DStar Settings

Accessed from DStar | Digital (Dstar) Settings in the menu at the top of the Programmer, this screen accepts entries for details essential for DStar operations. TH-D75_D-Star Settings

  • My Callsign - YOUR FCC issued callsign that is registered for DStar. You can enter up to six callsigns to make it easy for others to use this radio for DStar activities.
  • Note - A four-character note that will be sent with your transmission to be displayed on the face of the receiving radio. A unique note can be entered for each callsign in the list.
  • Select My Callsign - Set this option to callsign you want to use immediately after programming the radio.
  • Select TX Message - Select which of the five text messages to use immediately after programming the radio.
  • Tx Message - Enter information about yourself, your radio, your location in a string of 20 characters. This message is sent with your transmission to be displayed on the face of receiving radio. Five unique strings can be entered to be used with different activities.
  • Your Callsign list - to the right on this screen is list of Your Callsigns that are used as the "TO" connection during transmissions with DR memories. This list can be adjusted (items taken from or added to) as your activities demand. An original list can be found in a new file.

D-STAR Calculator

Set up memory channels for DStar use automatically using the built in DStar calculator. RT Systems does all the work for you making sure the DStar commands are written correctly.

Be ready to go with just a few mouse clicks.

TH-D75_Source and Destination

Source

The “Source” is the repeater you access to begin your adventures. Just like with analog repeaters, you must be able to hit the “Source” repeater. The Calculator will also help you set up a HotSpot.

Talk, Echo, Info and Unlink channels are created automatically for your “Source” repeater.

TH-D75_Route to Link Repeaters

Route/Link to Repeaters

Now that you identified your “Source” repeater, let’s set up destinations. In D-STAR you can Link to Repeaters or Route to Repeaters. To set up channels that link or route, use the drop down at the top to select your function, then select your repeaters by checking a country, region, state, city or individual repeater. A counter below the list keeps track of how many you have selected.

TH-D75_Link to Reflectors

Link to Reflectors

For even more fun, and a great way for a beginner to get started, Link to Reflectors. DStar reflectors are a special type of internet party line that gets you talking to others all over the world. You can often find activity on REF001C and REF030C although many of the others are good for listening or joining in on a conversation.

Remember... EVERYBODY is listening... but that’s what makes it fun. You have a whole world to talk to through your local repeater that you selected as the Source and then linked to a reflector. To set up a channel that links your repeater to a reflector, check the box for that reflector in the Link to Reflector tree.

Click Apply once to set up these channels for the radio.

The resulting channels are set up and ready to go.

Your callsign, Rpt 1 Callsign and Rpt 2 Callsign are set automatically... No wondering which suffix goes where, or if it is positioned correctly. That is all done for you.

Name can be edited here to better identify the station. Name is what you see on the radio. It is not part of the DStar commands for use by the system. It may be all you have to identify the function of a channel. (Notice the frequency is the same for ALL these channels although they each do something different on the DStar network.) Make the Name something you understand.

The names are displayed automatically along with the frequency.

TH-D75_D-Star Calulator for DR Memories

D-STAR Calculator for DR Memories

D-STAR Calculator for DR Memories lists repeaters worldwide for you to update or customize the list in the radio. Easily customize this list for places you plan to travel or places you want to work using a DR memory as your RPT2 repeater.

All repeater nodes are listed. Those the radio can use to transmit will be set automatically for “Repeater Use”.

Latitude and Longitude are included where that info is available from the source and the repeater is marked for use.

Click a country, region, state, city or individual repeater.

Use starting channel to replace or carefully add to your list.

No searching for data, it’s all right in the RT Systems Programmer.

The D-STAR calculator is updated automatically with the program. Just “Check for Updates” periodically to be sure you have the latest list.

To Use these Settings for D-STAR Fun:

  • Be sure your call sign is registered on the system.
  • Save and send the file to the radio.
  • Listen on the talk channel.
  • Check repeater status on info channel.
  • Check your connection to repeater on Echo channel.
  • Link repeater to a connection of your choice.
  • Talk on Talk channel.

Have Fun!

  • Set options to control how the programmer handles the global Radio Menu Settings file.
    • Separate - The global settings of the radio are held in a file separate from that with the memory channel information. This “set and forget” fashion carries these settings into a new frequency file automatically once you set these up and save the settings file.
    • Single File - The global settings of the radio are held in the file with the frequencies. This option is easier for someone who uses only one file for programming one radio or who needs to program different radios with different settings. In this mode, each file begins with factory defaults for the options of the radio.
  • Open new File - This option opens a new file each time you select Communications | Get data from radio to help prevent data loss when you read from your radio into the programmer. When unchecked, the Get data from process will replace the details on the screen with those from the radio.
  • Check “different window” - This legacy option is no longer used in Version 5 or 6. In earlier versions, files for different radios could be opened in the same main window.
