The FT-270 is a 2 meter only radio thus transmitting on in the 144-148 range.
Cable Requirements

This radio requires our USB-57B cable, it is yellow in color.
Tones heard when putting the radio into CLONE mode

If you hear tones when the radio is being put into Clone mode, the cable is not attached completely to the mic jack.
