Check these two settings in the radio

TNC PKT - This will appear at the top left on the display of the radio.  This is turned off by pressing the [F] key for 1 second then the TNC key (botton left) when that indication appears.  Do this repeatedly if necessary to turn off the TNC.

Com Port - This is a baud rate that will work only if set to 9600.  Getting to this setting is a little button intensive. 
Menu - OK - Up/down arrows to 9 - OK - Up/down arrows to 5 (Comport) - OK - Up/down arrows to 9600 - OK - Esc
POWER THE RADIO OFF AND BACK ON TO COMPLETE.
