Banks in the FT-857

Last Updated: 02/13/2016
Banks in the Yaesu FT-857 are predetermined into groups of 20. To use these, the details must be entered into memory channels according to the predetermined schemes (1-20 / 21-40 / 41-60 / etc).

To do this...
  • Put the first group of channels into memories 1-20. If you have less then 20 that's fine. If you have more, you'll have to plan a little for the extras.
  • Suppose there are fewer than 40 in that first group. To begin the next group, move up to channel 41 and begin entering your channels for group 2 there. The radio does not care if you leave blank channels between the last in group 1 and the first in group 2
  • Repeat this for channels you want in group 3, 4, 5 etc.
  • You're almost done with the programmer. Save your file but before you send it to the radio, go to Settings | Radio menu settings and be sure Memory Groups (first column) is checked. This engages the bank function.
To use banks on the radio you need to know how to select the group you want to use. This is explained in the section of the Owners Manual on memory channels.

This will get you going. Get all you can from your radio... It's all in the organization.
