RT Systems Programming Software for the
Windows version
requires Windows 8/8.1 (full version), Windows 10 for 32 and 64 bit platforms or Windows 11.
Mac version
requires Mac OS X 10.13.6 (64-bit) or newer.

So Icom designs the ID-51A (great radio) with plenty of out of band receive coverage. Then they write software that denies entry of any values outside the ham bands. Why Icom??? Enter the RT Systems software!!! Import local repeaters from Repeater Book, including necessary DStar information in one click. Done! Then add all my favourite VHF airband and marine channels, along with any other frequencies of interest. Set it all up in banks, link them as desired, scan away! Again, RT Systems software has proved invaluable. Their cables are very well made and work straight away with minimal fuss and no dodgy drivers to download from some unknown source like some cheap cables. Highly recommended!!

Programing Icom ID-5100 with RTSystems
Does everything it claims to do. The Mac Version required some system level tweaking of my Mac, but the online helper at Customer support made short work of that in one short phone call. I would prefer a better instruction on strategies for editing the repeater list. The Youtube videos just don't do it for me. Too hard to see the details of where the cursor is placed.

Kudos for the IC-51A RT Systems Software
Wow... the RT Systems software is SOOO much better than trying to use the Icom software. Also, it allows us to enter PD/Fire/Marine receive frequencies (which the Icom software does not). Well worth the money!

Great Product
A great software for programming radios. I loaded and plugged in my Icom ID-51 and uploaded settings on my radio. Quick and easy to add repeaters or other information and load it to the radio. Billy, N5EVD

The Windows version of the RT Systems programmer for this radio now works with "generic" USB cables. USB cables have become a little more consistent and reliable. Consider this as you decide which cable will be best for you.

If you feel really comfortable with identifying what cable is needed for this radio, by all means, pick something cheap and order it. You may get what you need for less money. We all like to get things that work for less money. But remember, you must consider, electronics of the cable as well as the proper connection at the radio to get programming to work. RT Systems has done all that work for you and can guarantee that the cable listed in the description is what you need for this model.
Cables with proper pin spacing for the radio have been around for a long time with varying designs for USB circuitry. some work well. Some work with varying degrees of success. Some don't work at all. Both circuitry design and wiring could be the issue. If you have a cable that works, it should work with the Windows version of the programmer. The Mac version of the programmer requires the RT Systems USB-RTS05 cable.
A generic cable may cease to work on Windows 11.
When using a generic USB cable for programming, you are responsible for finding and installing drivers.
You are responsible for identifying the com port in use by the cable, assigning that in the program and changing it should you use a different cable the next time that assigns to a different com port designation.
RT Systems cannot help you with cable setup... there are just too many cables out there for us to begin to know what you have.
USB-RTS05
Performance and ease of use of the Windows programming system are guaranteed only with the RT Systems USB-RTS05 cable. Note: The Mac version will work ONLY with the RT Systems USB-RTS05 cable.
RT Systems programming cables work on Windows 11.
Drivers are installed during installation of the programmer. Sometime help is needed to complete driver installation: we are here to help with that.
You do not need to know or assign a com port in the program. The programmer finds the cable automatically.
If there is a problem with communications between the radio and the computer, we are here to help....and we know LOTS of tricks!!
RT Systems programmers work with the radio specified from the manufacturer shown in the description.
RT Systems programmers are designed to work with manufacturer's firmware or approved firmware upgrades. There is no guarantee, and a great deal of doubt, that the programmer will work with a radio that has been upgraded with a firmware version that is not from the manufacturer. RT Systems takes no responsibility for changes made to such a modified radio during programming.
No implication is made that a programmer is appropriate for a radio with a similar number from a different manufacturer. Actually, purchasing a programmer for a radio from a different manufacturer just because it has a similar number is strongly discouraged.
RT Systems takes no responsibility for the performance of your radio should you choose to use a programmer other than that listed specifically for the manufacturer and model of that radio you are attempting to program. Exceptions are noted in the description for several products. Check there if you feel your radio is a variant of the one shown, but be advised that the manufacturer will never vary. If the model is not listed, you should check with RT Systems prior to your purchase.

You make that selection during the purchase from our site or at download if your purchase was through a dealer.

Qualifying versions are Windows 5.0 or higher and Mac 6.0 and higher. Earlier versions of the RT Systems programmers do not qualify you for a discounted cross platform purchase.
