RT Systems RRS-GMR5/5X Programming software makes it easy to manage memory channel information and other menu settings of the Rugged Radios GMRR5 and GMR5-X GMRS radios.
Spreadsheet layout with many point and click options.
"Read" the current configuration from the radio for editing or start from scratch in a new file.
The programmer has copy and paste of memory channel information between files.
Column editing for changing several channels with minimal typing.
An easy interface to Internet based data to get repeater information for your location, a travel route, or a vacation spot. Repeater details available for locations in and outside the US. (separate purchase or subscription may be required).
Other built-in frequency lists for easy memory channel entries (check File|External data in the programmer before you spend time on internet searches for frequencies. You may find just what you need!)
For DMR programming, links to contact and repeater information. Easily get and send details for all those contacts you're hearing.

RT Systems Programming Software for the
Windows version
requires Windows 8/8.1 (full version), Windows 10 for 32 and 64 bit platforms or Windows 11.
Mac version
requires Mac OS X 10.13.6 (64-bit) or newer.
The RT Systems programmers now work with "generic" USB cables. USB cables have become a little more consistent and reliable. Consider this as you decide which cable will be best for you.
Generic USB
Cable
Cables with proper pin spacing for the radio have been around for a long time with varying designs for USB circuitry. some work well. Some work with varying degrees of success. Some don't work at all. Both circuitry design and wiring could be the issue. If you have a cable that works, it should work with the programmer.
A generic cable may cease to work on Windows 11.
When using a generic USB cable for programming, you are responsible for finding and installing drivers.
You are responsible for identifying the com port in use by the cable, assigning that in the program and changing it should you use a different cable the next time that assigns to a different com port designation.
RT Systems cannot help you with cable setup... there are just too many cables out there for us to begin to know what you have.
USB-K4Y
Performance of the programming system is guaranteed only with the RT Systems USB-K4Y cable.
RT Systems programming cables work on Windows 11.
Drivers are installed during installation of the programmer. Sometime help is needed to complete driver installation: we are here to help with that.
You do not need to know or assign a com port in the program. The programmer finds the cable automatically.
If there is a problem with communications between the radio and the computer, we are here to help....and we know LOTS of tricks!!
During installation you will be given a choice of which programmer you need for your particular radio. Make your selection from those presented then click Next to continue.
During Mac installation, you will receive two .dmg files that are clearly identified for each program. Run the file for the program that is appropriate for your radio model.
Not sure... install them both. One will work.
RT Systems programmers work with the radio specified from the manufacturer shown in the description.
RT Systems programmers are designed to work with manufacturer's firmware or approved firmware upgrades. There is no guarantee, and a great deal of doubt, that the programmer will work with a radio that has been upgraded with a firmware version that is not from the manufacturer. RT Systems takes no responsibility for changes made to such a modified radio during programming.
No implication is made that a programmer is appropriate for a radio with a similar number from a different manufacturer. Actually, purchasing a programmer for a radio from a different manufacturer just because it has a similar number is strongly discouraged.
RT Systems takes no responsibility for the performance of your radio should you choose to use a programmer other than that listed specifically for the manufacturer and model of that radio you are attempting to program. Exceptions are noted in the description for several products. Check there if you feel your radio is a variant of the one shown, but be advised that the manufacturer will never vary. If the model is not listed, you should check with RT Systems prior to your purchase.
Installed software is NOT returnable, exchangeable or refundable.
Rugged Radios GMR5 and GMR5-X GMRS Radios
The GMR5 and GMR5-X radios come with 83 preprogrammed frequencies including simplex GMRS, repeater GMRS, and NOAA weather channels.
The frequencies of the preprogrammed channels can be changed. Tones, Names and other details can be set to customize these channels.
2M and 440MHz frequencies can be entered for listening only. The radio transmits only on GMRS frequencies.
Channels 84-200 can be used for listening on 2M and 440Mhz or for entering more GMRS frequencies.
The radio is fully functional on a GMRS frequency in any channel.
