Easier than trying to figure out front panel/mic p

I found the radio manual minimally useful. Front panel or mic button programming can be difficult. The RT spreadsheet makes it easy to set TX offset, CTSS, power and channel name. RT USB cable works very reliably on my Win 10 computer.

Wish I'd Tried This Sooner

Programming on the TYT TH-8600 with the provided software is nightmarish. All manual data entry, quirky behavior (fields change themselves), and worst of all, you can't sort or order anything once its entered. The RT software solved all of that and imported data directly from Repeater Book. There are a couple of minor bugs that require some tweaks via the front panel controls after pushing the plug to the radio, but considering Chinese manufacturers routinely make undocumented changes on software/firmware on a regular basis, I can't blame RT for those, and they're working on a solution. Great customer support, too. A real live person answers the phone. I spoke to Dominic who was helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. Next radio I buy, I'm ordering the RT software at the same time.

Disk from hell.....

I've used RT products before an know they are a quality product. I bought a disk for my new TYT TH-8600 so I could make changes as necessary. The issue began with an error message which occurred during the install. Something about inserting disk 1.... Called tech support. Nice lady says go to the website and download the patch. Ok, downloaded. Noticed the CD was taking forever to load. Thought the drive was going bad (?) so I tried to install on a laptop. Same difference. Another call to tech support. The guy says after some back and forth that the disk is probably bad and will send another. In the meantime, I can down load from the site using my key and get going. Success! Radio is happy and I'm better after two hours of install hell. Admin log of computer confirmed a bad sector on the CD. So, It looks like there needs to be some QC @ RT.

The Windows version of the RT Systems programmer for this radio now works with "generic" USB cables. USB cables have become a little more consistent and reliable. Consider this as you decide which cable will be best for you.

Generic USB Cable	If you feel really comfortable with identifying what cable is needed for this radio, by all means, pick something cheap and order it. You may get what you need for less money. We all like to get things that work for less money. But remember, you must consider, electronics of the cable as well as the proper connection at the radio to get programming to work. RT Systems has done all that work for you and can guarantee that the cable listed in the description is what you need for this model. Cables with proper pin spacing for the radio have been around for a long time with varying designs for USB circuitry. some work well. Some work with varying degrees of success. Some don't work at all. Both circuitry design and wiring could be the issue. If you have a cable that works, it should work with the Windows version of the programmer. The Mac version of the programmer requires the RT Systems USB-32 cable. A generic cable may cease to work on Windows 11. When using a generic USB cable for programming, you are responsible for finding and installing drivers. You are responsible for identifying the com port in use by the cable, assigning that in the program and changing it should you use a different cable the next time that assigns to a different com port designation. RT Systems cannot help you with cable setup... there are just too many cables out there for us to begin to know what you have.

USB-32	Performance and ease of use of the Windows programming system are guaranteed only with the RT Systems USB-32 cable. Note: The Mac version will work ONLY with the RT Systems USB-32 cable. RT Systems programming cables work on Windows 11. Drivers are installed during installation of the programmer. Sometime help is needed to complete driver installation: we are here to help with that. You do not need to know or assign a com port in the program. The programmer finds the cable automatically. If there is a problem with communications between the radio and the computer, we are here to help....and we know LOTS of tricks!!
