Well, this is a first...a new radio that does not require new software for programming. Yaesu's introduction of five new radios at Dayton 2009 was exciting. Now even more exciting is the discovery that you will not necessarily need new software for computer programming.
The FT-7900 can be programmed using the existing ADMS-2K programming kit.
The FT-250 can be programmed using the existing ADMS-1F programming kit.
The FT-270 can be programmed using the existing ADMS-VX170 programming kit.
New discovery... the FT-7900, FT-2500 and FT-270 each have a feature that their predecessors did not. Split Tones. Yes..a different tone for Rx and TX. So while the existing software will program the new radios, it will not address this new feature. The existing software will not be updated to address this new feature since this feature is not in the design of the existing radio.
Also, if you go from a new radio to the predecessor, you may get some unexpected results. Again, it will not hurt the radio; but the functionality of the radio may be other than what you expect.
The FT-1900 and the FT-2900 have not yet been tested with an existing programmer. While it is logical to presume that they will work with existing programming kits, you really want to let us risk our radios first. We'll post results here as soon as we know.
