USB Tester
This USB Tester program helps you identify cables that will work
with RT Systems' New Version 4 programmers.

- The USB device being tested must be installed with its drivers.

- Attach the USB cabling and give Windows time to complete its setup and make the device ready to use.

- If testing a USB to serial adapter, be sure to attach the serial cable to it that will be used to address the radio.

- When the file options are presented, click Open (or Run) to run the program without saving it to your hard drive. It can do its testing right from the web.

- Or Click Save to save the file to your hard drive in a location where you will be sure to be able to find it later or to CD, thumb drive or other storage device. Be sure to carefully note where you save the file so you can find it to run it once the download is complete.

- If you saved the file locally, run USBTester.exe from that location.

- When the USB Tester window opens, click Find to begin testing. A status bar crosses the screen letting you know that testing is being done.

- The results are displayed in the window once the USBTester completes the process.

The results appear in the window.

The Results

The USBTester program tests the cabling two ways.

The first set of results identifies the comport designations of your machine. These are clearly marked as Supported or Not Supported indicating the expected success of the cabling with the RT Systems Version 4 programmers.

RT Systems USB cables set up a comport that can be used by other applications that talk to the radio using comport routines. These results would be helpful to you if you are trying to identify the comport designation of the USB device. You will NOT need this information for the RT Systems' Version 4 programmers.

The results displayed under "USB Test Results:" give you an indication that the USB drivers for the device are installed correctly.

The cable for the VX-8 included with the ADMS-VX8 kit will appear in this section but not in the comport section of the results. This is normal for that cable.

The appearance of a USB device in the comport section and NOT in the USB Test Results section indicates that the drivers for the device are not properly installed. You may have tested too soon after attaching the device. It can take the machine several seconds (a long time in computer time) to get the device ready to use. Count to 20 then Test again. If the results are the same, be sure you have installed the drivers for the device.

Supported Use of this cabling is supported by RT Systems. This cabling will work with the RT Sustems Version 4 Radio Programmer for the appropriate radio.

Not Supported Use of this cabling is not supported by RT Systems. This cabling will NOT work with the RT Systems Version 4 Radio Programmers

Use with Discretion Use of the cable is not supported by RT Systems. This cabling might work with the RT Systems Version 4 Radio Programmers; but, it might not. Problems with sending data to and receiving data from the radio may occur when using this cable.

Contact RT Systems This cabling is reporting results that are not complete. RT Systems tech support will help you with details for repair or replacement once final diagnostics are performed. It may even be possible to do the necessary repairs over the Internet without having to return the cable.

Cable Repair or Replacement

If the program reports back available comports and does not report one with the programming cable attached, check your cable connection and try again. If the cable cannot be located after repeated attempts and there is no doubt of your comport setups (i.e., USB drivers not installed properly) then the cable should be returned for replacement to the address shown. Be sure to review the details on repair and replacement before you send a cable.

Warranty Repair or Replacement - RT Systems' warranty covers the RT Systems' programming cables for 90 days from the date you purchased the kit. During that time, a cable will be tested and repaired or replaced with no charge to you for that service or for return shipping. You need only submit the cable for testing with a copy of your receipt showing that the purchase was made within the last 90 days.

Out of Warranty Services - RT Systems supports the RT Systems' programming cables at any time whether you are the original owner or not. If your purchase of the programmer was made more than 90 days ago or if you purchased your kit second hand, you are welcome to send a cable for testing and repair. With the cable, please include your return mailing information and $10.00 for handling and return shipping. Failure to send payment will result in a delayed return. You will be contacted by phone, mail or e-mail to make arrangements for that payment. Once payment is received, the repaired cable will be returned to you.

Non-RT Systems Cables - A cable that is returned to RT Systems for repair or replacement that is determined to be something other than an RT Systems Programming cable will be returned to its owner just as it was received. We do not have the facilities to test or repair other cables. These other cables are designed specifically for another application just as the RT Systems cable is designed for programming. A cable from another application (i.e., your camera, PDA, etc) will not work to program your radio.
